FLUX as creative metaphor.
It could be said that a characteristic associated with visual art practice is the concept of being in a “state of flux” – a state of uncertainty preceding the establishment of a new direction or action. This can refer to the dynamics of individual creative practices as well as an institutional position. In terms of visual arts education these are seen as positive indicators of change and progression in the creative process.
Acknowledging the value of what has gone before while embracing what is coming next is vital to the future success of an art school. Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) is in an exciting period of development in its 10th anniversary year, new ideas, new approaches and new ways of providing the best education available in the Visual Arts are currently progressing strongly.
These developments are mirrored in the quality of our graduates and their considerable achievements and success in professional development. The exhibition SHIFT reveals the qualities that AVA values and promotes through the presentation of excellent examples of individual creative approaches, ideas and outcomes.
